Communities In Schools of New Mexico
Santa Fe, New Mexico / $15,000
Close to 50% of Santa Fe’s young people drop out of the school often due to a range of poverty related challenges. CIS seeks to provide Santa Fe’s high-risk children and youth attending Santa Fe’s highest need public schools with access to the services, tools and resources needed to ensure they will stay in school. CIS staff help students get back on track in school and in their lives leading to a more successful educational and life experience.

Creativity for Peace
Santa Fe, New Mexico / $15,000
Creativity for Peace continues to build on its Transforming Conflict curriculum. In January 2015 we piloted Peace Ambassadors, a leadership program for Santa Fe young women that is focused on social activism, project management and public speaking. Initial evaluation showed that participants across our youth programs gained skills needed to become agents of change in their communities, grew in confidence and capacity to use these skills, and forged new friendships and relationship with young women from diverse backgrounds.

Survivors of domestic violence are safer while their abusers are participating in a batterer’s intervention program. Any lack of Spanish language batters intervention programs is a major gap in a community coordinated response to domestic violence. The project is a 52 week socio-educational batterer’s intervention group facilitated by two well trained Spanish speaking men. Our goals are to change abusive partner’s behaviors regarding conflict, prevent reoccurrence of partner violence, and change abusive partner attitudes toward women.
